| "CHAMAH" |
Dear Sirs: We have the honour to introduce the oldest Moscow charity organisation: Jewish Charity “CHESED - CHAMAH”. Throughout the centuries Jews have been known for their willingness to lend a helping hand to each other. As the wises say, there are three basic qualities of the Jewish national character, the two of them being the unselfish kindness and the compassion for one's neighbour. Unfortunately, too often we spend these treasures of our hearts purposelessly. However, today we need more than ever to revive the ancient tradition of help and support that has unfailingly saved us all through our hard history.
"One good cause is better than one thousand sighs," - our wise say.
“CHESED - CHAMAH” is oldest charity organisation in Moscow. In the seven years of joint work we have helped several thousand people. Our assistance has been no less than a saving miracle for some of them. Currently there are around 200 (and over 600 on the lists) needy or helpless in our charge. Their number is growing steadily and many among them cannot any longer conceive their decent existence without our care and support. Our staff's duties include dispatching, reception, medical care at our clients' homes, cleaning, nursing, shopping, cooking, etc.. The Societies dispose of a free kosher soup kitchen that serves almost 200 hot meals a day, including 150 meals delivered to homes. One can also consult a doctor at regular hours at the kosher soup kitchen. Spiritual support is of no less significance than physical aid. Therefore we have a reading hall, we celebrate Jewish holidays, meet famous people, attend theatre performances, etc.. Those who stick to the tradition and Judaism are provided kosher chicken, matzoth and wine. To be sure, all services are absolutely free for our wards. Unfortunately, the strained circumstances prevent us from rendering proper assistance to all those who need it and make us limit the number of our clients refusing to other people. Meanwhile, pleas for help keep coming...
Charity is one of the three pillars supporting the world. Is it due to the loss of this pillar that the world has become so unstable? Our organisation lives on donation both from Russia and abroad. Your sharing our efforts and expenses to help and support the Russian Jews in the following programs will be highly appreciated.
